All IC6 schools

Course Outline

On this creative and dynamic fine art course candidates will learn about an exciting range of art practises. They will work closely with artists and galleries to explore and identify sources of inspiration to develop their work independently. Creative and reflective experimentation will be carried out with a wide range of media and materials using primary and secondary sources as starting points. Candidates will be encouraged to create highly personal responses to the themes and projects covered. During the course, candidates will also discover how different creative areas are inter-related and influence each other.

The course will enable candidates to develop:

  • intellectual, imaginative, creative and intuitive powers
  • investigative, analytical, experimental, practical, technical and expressive skills, aesthetic understanding and critical judgement
  • knowledge, understanding and application of fine art (traditional and contemporary)
  • an awareness of the different roles, functions, audiences and consumers of art.

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have a strong interest in the arts and a desire to learn and acquire new skills in the subject. It is recommended that candidates have a GCSE in Art and Design at Grade B or above and at least a C in GCSE English to demonstrate communication and literacy skills. Individual cases that do not meet these requirements will be considered.
