Course Outline

This course will encourage your interest in and enthusiasm for history. It will provide you with an understanding of its intrinsic value and significance. You will acquire an understanding of different identities within society and an appreciation of social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity through the study of aspects of British and non-British history. This will build on your understanding of the past and will improve you as an effective and independent learner as well as a critical and reflective thinker. You will have the opportunity to ask relevant and significant questions about the past and to research them. Topics are examined in-depth through the use of texts and sources.

Entry Requirements

6 GCSEs at Grade C or above including English at Grade B or above. History GCSE is not necessary but would benefit the student.

Assessment

80% examination, 20% coursework.

Units One, Two and Three are externally examined (80%). Unit Four is a coursework unit (20%).

Progression

History is a well-respected qualification that can be combined with a number of subjects and can lead to a wide range of careers such as law, journalism, archaeology, management, politics, the Civil Service or social work.
