Course Outline

This course offers you the opportunity to develop your knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of theatre as a practitioner, critic and as an informed member of the audience. Working in either a performing or production role you will extend your ability to create drama and theatre.

You will need practical, creative and communication skills to take advantage of the creative opportunities the course offers. You will write about drama and develop your skills in observation and critical analysis to become an informed critic. Regular theatre visits are a key part of this course.

Entry Requirements

6 GCSEs at Grade C or above including English and Mathematics and a B grade in a related subject.

Assessment

Coursework Exploration Notes (Year 12) and SWEDs (Year 13) based on classroom practical workshops, set texts and Live Performance.

Devised and Scripted Performances in both Year 12 and 13 (including group and monologue).

An examination on a set text and a live performance (Year 13).

Progression

This course is an excellent choice if you wish to progress to a career in the performing arts industries for example theatre, television and film, drama therapy as well as teaching, the leisure industry and tourism. There are many transferrable skills including confidence in public speaking, working with a variety of people and organisations, and critical thinking.
