Course Outline

18 Units – equivalent to 3 A Levels

The course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and provides the knowledge, understanding and skills for young people who want a career as a business decision-maker. This course is for students who are interested in developing a career in science in fields as diverse as forensic science and laboratory work.

You will study four core units and up to 18 specialist units. The range of subjects offered includes a range of applied scientific topics and their application in a variety of vocational settings such as engineering, pharmaceutical industry, health related industries, etc.

• Industrial Applications of Organic Chemistry
• Genetics
• Genetic Engineering

Entry Requirements

At least 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English and Mathematics. At least a B Grade in a related GCSE (Science) or a Merit Grade in a Level 2 vocational qualification.

Assessment

All units are accessed via assignments. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded which has UCAS equivalence and is recognised by universities in the UK when establishing their entry requirements for higher education.

Progression

As a Level 3 programme of studies, the course is equivalent to three A Levels. It prepares you to either progress a variety of science-related degree courses at university level or to work in science based employment.
