Luminites live
23/11/11
IC6 students enjoyed an exceptional live performance from the ‘street band’ Luminites in their assembly this week as part of the Lumites nationwide schools tour.
The band are a highly original musical group that blends human beat-box, acoustic guitar, keys and vocal harmony. The band members are Ben Francis (17), Ella Palfrey (19), JJ Clark (16), Stephanie Nala (17) and Corey Lazell (19. They consider themselves to be a "Street band" as they regularly promote themselves by busking on the streets of London.
Luminites were formed last year after Ben was spotted beatboxing in Covent Garden by a couple of music industry executives who now manage the group.

Teenagers can often be pretty critical when they’re judging work by people their own age but not on Wednesday! Central Foundation was honoured to invite up and coming hip-hop band Luminites to perform for the sixth form. Needless to say, it was nothing short of an early Christmas treat!
After a fidgety wait during the sound check the show kicked off-and we quite simply didn’t want it to stop! From the start applause and cheering were the norm. The Luminites, aged 17-19, began playing a few original songs for us, which they performed whilst busking round London. The clear favourite, ‘Streets of London’, forced the Luminites into their third encore of the morning, and they spectacularly performed a unique rendition of The Script’s ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ which we all enthusiastically joined in on singing.
To finish the morning off Mr Meadows and Ms Nejdjet had some certificates to present to sixth formers who had either attained well in a particular subject or made significant improvement in it. Winners were presented their certificates by the band on stage to an ever-applauding audience; a great way to wrap up a great show!
